For the last 20 years, my job has been attached with doing the mandate of VWU, which is representing the legal and legitimate rights and interests of Vietnamese women and strives for women’s development and gender equality.
Being a VWU presidium member, I am responsible to map out VWU’s women development programs and strategies as well as to develop policies and programs for women advancement and gender equality. With the training background in social work and international relations, I have a lot of chances in meeting and supporting vulnerable women across the countries as well as working with international counterparts. Experiences from working with women and good practices learning from international friends give need and evidence-based arguments for my job of doing advocacy for gender sensitive laws and policies. So far, VWU had successfully developed the Law of Gender and Equality in Vietnam and a number of policies for advancing women such as providing maternity money support for ethnic and poor women, 6-month maternity leave for women, reducing 5 year of paying social insurance for women staff at communal level to be qualified for monthly pension... In addition, I am conducting a lot of training courses on gender mainstreaming and law monitoring to build capacity for key staff of Vietnam Women’s Union at 63 provinces/cities and Law students of Vietnam Women’s Academy in Vietnam.
