Dr. Shiow-duan Hawang is currently distinguished professor of the Department of Political Science at Soochow University, Taipei, Taiwan, and since August 1 of 2016 she has also taken the position of the Dean of School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at Soochow University. Besides her position in Soochow University, she is also the President of Citizen Congress Watch, which is a civil society organization aiming at overseeing the behavior of the members of Congress and promoting the congressional reforms and transparency.
Dr. Hawang received her Ph. D Degree from Emory University, U.S.A. From 2009-2015, she served as chair of the Department of Political Science and director of Chang Fo-Chuan Center for the Studies of Human Rights at Soochow University. Her main research interest, include comparative politics, voting behavior, congressional politics, political culture, constitutional system, and human rights. Her publications can be seen on Taiwan Democracy Quarterly, Taiwanese Political Science Review, Taiwanese Journal of Political Science, Soochow Journal of Political Science, Journal of Social Sciences and Philosophy, Journal of Electoral Studies etc..
